Our blog

Village Farm is a working organic farm, so there’s usually lots going on here. Between looking after the animals and working the land, we try to find time now and again to keep you up to speed with what’s happening.

  1. Sinderby-Green-newIs there anything more evocative than a village green?

Back in 1923, when our grandparents were given the farm as a wedding present, the whole area was farmland. In 1995 we had the idea of using some of our land to create a focal point to the village and came up with the idea of the green, right opposite our farmhouse. It makes a welcome sight in Spring  and we love hearing the kids charging around it on their bikes.  The green provides a recreation space for everyone and it is astonishing to see how the trees have shot up since 1998.

  2. Wyandotte chickenWhen we built the cottages, we were pondering what to name them. We had various ideas but none of them seemed right. They just didn't fit with our farm or its history.

Then we had a bright idea. Our dad was a bit of a poultry expert and was well known in the poultry and judging world. He loved bantams and so we thought, ‘Why not call the cottages afer his favourite bantam breeds?’

And that's where Wyandotte, Orpington and Sebright come from. (The lass on the left is a Wyandotte.)
